Each year, Seattle University's CS seniors take part in a year long group project in collaboration with a sponsoring company or organization. Our team of seniors worked with Kilowatts for Humanity, a nonprofit who seeks to bring first-time access to electricity to developing communities around the world. We were tasked with building a web application that tracks the organization's inventory of components used to build a Data Acquisition System (DAS) that sits in each solar-powered kiosk installation. We used the .NET core framework to build a Razor Pages web app with a MySQL backend. With the application, a logged in KWH volunteer can view, edit, add, and delete any of the organization's parts, part categories, vendors, and projects. The application also keeps track of a part's history in regards to who edited the part and when. We set up an EC2 instance with an AWS free tier account to test our product, and then when it is ready to be deployed, KWH will install and deploy it on their own cloud server. This was an extremely valuable project that gave our team the real-world experience we needed before graduating and starting our professional careers.
