Jesse and I met as co-participants in the training session for "Fellows" in the Obama for America campaign in June, 2008. We were randomly placed in the same group of five volunteers, and assigned to do the initial campaign organizing for Ft. Lauderdale. Jesse quickly displayed his skills as organizer, presenter and leader. He organized events ranging from house informational events with 1-20 participants to rallies that hosted thousands. At one rally, Jesse introduced the keynote speaker, Hillary Clinton. As a field organizer for the OFA campaign and Democratic Party, Jesse managed an office in Pompano Beach. During the final 10 weeks of the campaign, this office "employed" more than a hundred volunteers who provided their skills in telephoning, canvassing, poll watching, data collection/assessment and development and distribution of materials. Jesse oversaw and was responsible for this entire operation. He garnered the well deserved respect of campaign volunteers and organizer colleagues.
