Research Assistant - Iris Recognition

Norfolk, Va, Us

Through the years Iris Recognition Systems have been used for the following: aviation security, controlling access to restricted areas at airports, database access and computer login, access to buildings and homes, hospital settings (mother-infant pairing in maternity wards), and database searching at border crossings. Iris Recognition has been considered one of the simplest and non-intrusive techniques of biometric identifications because of the uniqueness of individual’s iris pattern. Algorithms in the past have proven to be efficient, however, they also present problems for small businesses for the enormous cost these systems present. In the midst of these problems facing our society, a new innovative way of authenticating individuals while accruing a low cost must be presented. Iris Recognition technologies have matured over time and use many complex algorithms to accomplish this concept. Nevertheless, there are still areas, which require intense investigation. Development of an innovative algorithm will consist of two processes: one to detect the center of the pupil and one to detect the two edge coordinates along a specified region of the iris. From the center of the pupil, plotting of the two edge coordinates signifying the distinctive structure of an iris will provide the algorithm with the three parameters to calculate the Law of Cosines. Overall, the algorithm proved to be mathematically simple and computationally efficient that generates adequate results as mainstream commercial products.Deliverables:- Developed an application that performed biometric scans to uniquely identify optic samples using the structure of the iris as a basis using the Lab-View application suite. - Produced an algorithm that proved to be mathematically feasible via Laws of Cosines and computationally robust that generated adequate results as mainstream commercial products by producing an 89% efficient rate.
