He has also been involved in mechanics based projects, both installing strain gages and analyzing parts to determine the optimal sensor type and location for installation. Dr. Sipple's experience includes planning and executing field installations and testing for large, complex projects; project management; project scheduling and staffing; and performing detailed analysis and reporting.Currently as Engineering Division Manager at BDI, Jesse oversees the testing, monitoring, and engineering groups. Day-to-day activities include oversight in both operational and financial sides of the division, including invoicing, budgeting, projections, and general oversight of active projects. Jesse continues to provide operational updates to the system to help increase efficiencies within the team and rolling up to reporting for the business. Dr. Sipple's research expertise is in dynamic testing of bridges for the purpose of parameter estimation through finite element model updating, more commonly referred to these days as a digital twin. Dr. Sipple’s research on digital twins was using both static and dynamic data to update finite element models based on field measured structural response data.Dr. Sipple is involved in multiple professional committees, has given various technical presentation, and has multiple peer-reviewed journal publications.
Listed skills include Finite Element Analysis, Civil Engineering, Autocad, Sap2000, and 15 others.

Research Assistant - Structural Engineering And Mechanics
• Lead graduate researcher for bridge instrumentation for use in structural health monitoring• Main research activities focus on the use of frequency response functions for automated finite element model updating. The frequency response functions are obtained from experiments performed on real structures, specifically the Vernon Avenue over Ware River, Powdermill Pond Bridge.- This has involved writing a MATLAB code to take information from a SAP2000 finite element model to create the frequency response function of the model.- The difference between the measured FRF and analytical FRF is found and minimized by changing parameters in the finite element model until the difference is at a minimum and convergence criteria is met.• Other activities include planning and implementation of the instrumentation of a 150' 3-span bridge in rural MA for use in an NSF funded research. The instrumentation was accomplished prior to steel erection and during the remainder of the bridge construction. A data acquisition system is in place to serve the over 200 sensors which include strain gauges, temperature sensors, tiltmeters, accelerometers, and pressure plates.• Planning and implementation of three full scale bridge load tests performing both static and dynamic tests. Static tests involve using a fully loaded dump truck traveling at crawl speeds while the data is being acquired. This requires tracking the exact position of the truck with respect to the bridge coordinates for use in simulations when analyzing the data. The dynamic tests involve the use of an APS Dynamics shaker to excite the bridge while measurements are taken on a grid of sensitive Wilcoxon accelerometers brought to the bridge for this test.• Development of MATLAB processing code for the data acquired during the load tests for use by the research group.
Research Assistant - Structural Engineering
• Continuation of monitoring project on FHWA IBRC Program bridge. The target bridge was the Rollinsford Bridge in Rollinsford, NH. The bridge is a one span, CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) concrete deck sitting on prestressed concrete girders instrumented with fiber optic strain sensors.• Creation of model for use in model updating• Planning and implementation of load test
Engineering Intern/Survey Technician
• Computer aided drafting for survey and site/civil groups of large New York area firm• Part of drafting team on larger projects including Newark Downtown Core Redevelopment, Newark, NJ; Museum of Art and Design, New York, NY; and Battery Park City, New York, NY• Maintained interpretation and analysis for monitoring data of retaining wall post-failure at Castle Village Apartment Complex, New York, NY
Draftsperson
• Computer aided drafting on residential projects from small homes to large complexes, as well as small commercial building projects
