Research institute MARIN is a provider of advanced expertise and independent research to the maritime industry. Using the newest test facilities and simulators and working together with an extensive innovation and research network we achieve our goal: the development of cleaner, safer and smarter ships and sustainable use of the sea.I’m active in MARINs Cruise & Ferry team. We provide assistance to owners, shipyards and design companies in order to improve the quality of their vessels regarding hull resistance, propulsion, seakeeping and manoeuvring aspects. Our services are based on experience with nearly 8,000 ships.My tasks centre on propeller-related projects, such as design evaluation with CFD and BEM, propeller optimisation and cavitation assessment.

The research concerns the design and analysis of a centrifugal inline separator for oil/water flows. Compact, lightweight separation equipment can deliver a substantial reduction in costs for offshore or subsea production sites. The focus in this work is on two-phase flow CFD. There has been close collaboration with the University of Delft, where experimental work has been carried out on the in-line separator. Mathematical modelling of hindered settling of oil-water mixtures in gravity settlers. The governing equations are rewriting into a system of wave equations, describing the evolution of the volume fraction of oil. The approach taken here is known as the methods of characteristics.
