About Jesse Thomas Palma
I am currently developing a robust platform for AI-powered construction machinery maintenance and service support. We are Digital Iron.More generally, as an experienced machine learning scientist, I enjoy constructing novel intelligent systems. My recent focuses have been in commerce AI, sustainability, weather, logistics, natural language understanding and uncertainty. I bring a diverse set of knowledge that includes recurrent neural networks, linguistic theory, dynamical systems, graphical models, predictive models and mathematics of learning in the brain. My strengths are creativity, persistence and the ability to redesign and combine multiple ML methods to create more effective systems.-------In prior positions, I have constructed numerous machine learning and statistical models. At Salient Predictions, I used my knowledge of machine learning to improve the best long-time weather predictor in the world. I worked on capturing asset movement in the supply chain at Turvo Inc. I created NLP capabilities for a startup called Aligned Incentives. And for Genscape, I designed ML methods to predict weather uncertainty. I also worked on models of commodities on vessels based on sequences of maritime data. This built on my previous work - namely, as VP of Data Sciences, I built algorithms at a logistics start-up Weft, that was acquired in 2016. I headed the development of big data analytics, from statistics to machine learning, to provide logistics performance analysis over massive data in real-time.For Neurala, I designed and developed a novel neural architecture for deep learning reflecting the anatomy and chemistry of the brain. I acted as PI for the BU funded portion and my algorithm has been patented for the startup. The system symbiotically learns both whole patterns rapidly and orthogonal sub-patterns slowly.My doctorate thesis under Stephen Grossberg examined the stability of short-term memory of patterns in cortical circuits. Finally, for my undergraduate thesis, I built a simulated environment in which neural networks evolved.
