Med-surg unit: Worked 12 hour shifts two days a week, specifically on night shift. My scope of practice involved turning, monitoring, taking vitals, bed baths, showers, changing sheets, ambulating, and advocating for the patient. I would be responsible for 12 patients on the unit each shift, communicating closely with the nurses and maintaining the health of the patient through mindful, empathetic care.Staff and Patient Assistance: Assisted medical staff with preparing rooms for patients, preparing for procedures, obtaining vitals, and being delegated by RN and LPN when necessary. Room Setup: I made sure that patients' rooms were stocked with gloves, masks, trash bags, and materials for equipment. I also made sure to take out trash and get help with spills when necessary. Communication: I communicated clearly and efficiently with staff and the patients. I was timely and accurate, and I made sure to protect patient privacy when I talked about their care with the care team. Information Documentation: I learned how to use Epic efficiently, documenting I&Os, vitals, assessment findings, and care and safety precautions. I also was able to obtain specimens when they needed to be collected. Age-Specific Care: I made sure to provide care to the geriatric community by cleaning dentures, respecting generational differences, and making sure they were safe. I made sure to create a welcoming environment and respect all patients I worked with, providing general, holistic care to all. I specified my care when I built rapport by doing things that made them comfortable, like replacing warm blankets or making sure their waters were in cups they could hold instead of pitchers that were too big for them to use. Infection Prevention: I made sure to wash my hands and use hand sanitizer to protect both myself and my patient. I put on proper PPE and use techniques specific to the patients disease process. This included cleaning a patients PICC or Port with chlorhexidine wipes daily.
