Want to know what I’m all about? Here’s a short list:1. Teaching and communicatingIn grad school, I learned to be an effective language teacher but also a cross-cultural communicator. Through my coursework and interactions with the culturally-varied mix of students and faculty I worked with, I discovered how to de-center myself, listen with empathy, and build cultural bridges with others. I was trained in needs analysis, adult learning theory, designing learning objectives, assessment, teaching methodology, curriculum development and evaluation, linguistics, and cross-cultural communication.2. Building confidence and rapportCreating a safe space is crucial to language learning, so I put a lot of effort into building rapport with my students. I consider it a great accomplishment that many of my students made lifelong friendships in my classes. I bring this same focus on connection to my coaching business, and my clients and mentees consistently tell me that they feel safe and supported by my approach. (See my Recommendations)3. Designing and improving curriculumAs a coach, I’ve designed 50+ digital storytelling resources (including a masterclass, three online courses, and 15 videos) to empower clients in portfolio development and interviews, ensuring they reach career goals faster. As a teacher, I’ve developed 600+ hours of adult education curriculum, including weekly assignments, group activities, assessments, rubrics, student handbooks, and video prompts for international adult learners. In each role, I’ve leveraged my training in Adult Learning Theory, Backward Design, and ADDIE to ensure course quality.4. Collaborating and leadingI enjoy collaboration but am very comfortable with independent remote work and taking the initiative to improve things. I’m not afraid to take on leadership, and in my role as lead teacher at AAU, I ran monthly meetings, mediated conflicts, and created software training guides for my colleagues. I’m very proud of the paper I co-wrote with my colleagues for The CATESOL Journal and the work we did together at AAU to build a successful program for our students.5. Learning new technology and problem-solvingI’ve always embraced new ways of working, and I enjoy gamifying the learning experience. Most of my program knowledge is self-taught, from Photoshop to WordPress to Excel to Articulate.
