Successful candidate selected to participate in a joint venture with UBC Faculty of Medicine to improve health conditions for a remote school in Northern India by monitoring, optimizing and developing a systematic maintenance plan for a new water access and distribution system designed and constructed by UBC engineering students. Participated in pre-departure planning which included cost estimates, grant applications and the development of short and long-term goals to achieve while on location. Generated a behavior study guideline using GPS units to assess changes in water usage patterns as a result of improved water infrastructure to provide improvements to sustain the project for future generations of the community. Upon return, authored in-depth technical reports summarizing my experience and making recommendations for future teams, and I have given several presentations to the UBC community and the public to bring awareness to the projects and to inspire others to participate.

Chiapas, Mexico

Travelled to a small community in Southern Mexico, working closely with a local NGO and community members to develop new concepts for small-scale sustainable engineering projects such as dry toilets and a greywater treatment system, to ease the implementation process in the community. On site, our team coordinated these pilot projects, working with limited resources, a tight budget and short timeline and bridging communication and cultural gaps with the local community.

Acted as a secondary checker to compute wind, snow and earthquake loads for steel framed mining structures in accordance with local and national building codes by hand calculations and also using Bentley MicroStation. Reviewed steel shop drawings for conformance to construction documents. Organized and retrieved structural drawings from the document management system for site engineers.

Co-authored two published industry studies, including communications and pension plans, enabling the company to release reports to subscribers with a summary of industry trends and forecasts. Remodeled and consolidated spreadsheets in a systematic and organized manner to make information more accessible and efficient to process. Retrieved financial and corporate data from Bloomberg and Capital IQ and other large databases to ensure company publications were accurate and up-to-date.
