Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft’s cloud business. The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible. CO+I Engineering is a competitive advantage for Microsoft, and an important pillar in its cloud success.The Security Engineering & Critical Infrastructure (SECI) team is focused on delivering security and technology services across the datacenter delivery lifecycle. This includes security technology platforms & critical infrastructure, industrial networking & cyber defense, data bearing device risk management, and the management of 3rd party platforms across CO+I.

Apart of the ‘Dream Team’ for the opening ceremonies as the military liaison. Lead and instructed 50 – 100 active duty volunteers, veterans and their families about on-field responsibilities for opening ceremony elements. Responsible for the American flag routes and how to hold the flag during the National Anthem to pay proper respects.  Supported the Game Presentation Coordinator in the directing of volunteers to execute on field opening ceremony elements and project an enthusiastic yet professional image in all interactions with fans, corporate partners, Hosted the 2019 Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup where hospitality and customer service was provided to MLS staff, opening ceremony volunteers, national anthem performers and other special guests. Coordinated with 100+ volunteers to ensure the MLS was able to host at the CenturyLink stadium with ease. The result was satisfied customers and a smooth game proceeded.  Assisted the MLS 2019 Cup Presentation and Winners Parade which included coordinating 100+ volunteers, providing hospitality to the players and their families, and ensuring the team was directed properly throughout this experience. Players and fans were able to focus on the celebration due to the coordinated efforts.

MSSA partners with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University to host courses based on the U.S. National Institute of Science and Technology’s (NIST) Security Framework and (ISC)² body of knowledge. These include understanding network and systems threat landscapes, security policy and governance models, securing access controls, security tools and techniques, digital forensics and cybercrime, and server, client, Azure cloud hardening and security management across platform. Learning about Identity and Access for Cybersecurity, Managing Identity, Systems Security Policies and Practices, Systems Vulnerability Analysis and Hardening, Cyber Incident Investigation and Resolution, and Securing Windows Server 2016  CompTIA Security+ Certification (in-progress) and ISC2 SSCP Certification (in-progress) Raspberry Pi project called ‘PlantiePi’ learning about IoT, beginner python coding, and generating a web app that will environmentally monitor and water the plant using advanced sensors to monitor the soil moisture, sunlight, air quality, temperature and humidity.

Learned Department of Defense (DOD) security practices concerning Physical, Personnel, and Information security. Supported customers through providing security remediation’s of identified vulnerabilities. Reviewed DOD and SSP policies and procedures to discuss findings and suggest improvements to the security posture. Created a 100% accountability audit for 197 safes, vaults, and secure rooms with classified information. Fashioned a user-friendly checklist, checked access control lists, visitor logs and safe combination paperwork, viewed operational intrusion detection systems (IDS), and conducted Classified Control Representative training for 20 people. The security posture was improved, and customer relation and satisfaction went up. Completed 50+ Center for Development of Security Excellence (CDSE) courses which included 20+ CompTIA Continuing Education courses which enhanced personal knowledge and showcased a growth mindset for DOD security practices. Experience with analyzing an environment through Risk Assessment to make suggestions for safety and security improvements through conducting 3 Physical Security Assessments following DOD 5200.08-R with a team of 10+ using defense in depth wherein the issues were analyzing, identified and fixed.  Point-person for Camera Passes and Courier Cards responsible for over 300 customer’s renewals and documentation in Microsoft SharePoint. Updated the out-of-date programs to fit the current policies and procedures. Streamlined the process through converting all paperwork to an online system which saved 20 minutes of time per camera pass and courier card.

Worked on an interagency Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case entitled ‘Mother of Dragons’ as an Intelligence Intern. Analyzed mass amounts of data to produce a product based on specified parameters. Self-taught i2 Analyst notebook to create charts linking money transfers, people, and IP locations that were used in the court of law. Able to respond to high-stress situations while keeping personal and sensitive information confidential.  SSBI Top Secret – Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) (T5) Interdepartmental work with Customs and Border Patrol (CPB), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Seattle Police Department (SPD), Northwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (NW HIDTA). The benefit of interagency work was producing a product for the federal agents to utilize for search warrants, funded travel to speak directly with persons of interest, and using the products produced in a court of law.  Analyzed 40+ Facebook warrant returns, 50+ IP address locations, and 10+ Western Union warrant returns which lead to creating a link between people and the money transfers exposing a network of drug trafficking events. The analysis was searching through thousands of pages finding key conversations, words, money transfers, and locations to determine where persons of interest were located.  DEA Basic Analysis and Investigative Support Certificate which covered crypto currency, open source investigating, forensic support, intelligence research, pharmaceutical and chemistry composition of drugs.

Worked as an engineer on propulsion and diesel engines, mechanical machinery, controls systems, piping networks, and distribution systems on board the 378 class Security Cutters. Diagnosed complex machinery issues using vessel schematics to support the cutter’s law enforcement mission through preforming preventative maintenance and 3 engine swaps that cost over 1 million dollars.  Oversaw the budget for the department and maintaining an accurate inventory list. Responsible for over $10,000 worth of equipment and ordering supplies for the shop before they were needed.  Mentored 10+ new members as the Lead Fireman, Base Seattle.
