As an Energize Colleges Fellow I developed and managed the Energize Colleges sustainability internship program at San Mateo County Community College District. This involved engaging local sustainability organisations to create student internship positions that would empower the future generation of energy professionals. I then advertised the positions, interviewed candidates, and trained and managed students through the completion of their internships. Throughout this process I collaborated with the funding organisation by completing progress reports, presentations, proposals, contracts, and budgets for the following year.While in this position I also contributed to the districts’ sustainability strategy and reporting, greenhouse gas inventory, climate action plan, event marketing, and Instagram. I worked in a matrix structure, reporting to three supervisors and organisations.

As a Jr. Water Resource Engineer, I developed wetland and river restoration design alternatives for clients. This required managing, validating, analysing, and displaying large datasets in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Excel. I visually communicated existing conditions, design alternatives, and final designs through maps and design plans for clients and developers. I conducted fieldwork for topographic surveys and managed elevation datasets. I created computational models and tools in Microsoft Excel for clients.During my time at Cardno I also contributed to cost estimates, health and safety plans, design reports, and project proposals, fulfilling deadlines for multiple projects and clients simultaneously.

The Gambia

As an Agriculture Volunteer I completed 270 hours of training in cross-culture communication, Mandinka language, sustainable agriculture, monitoring and evaluation, and gender and development. I consulted community stakeholders from each household to understand their priorities and empower them to develop community strategies while navigating language barriers. I completed reports on the community needs assessment and started the grant application process for water and energy projects prior to COVID-19 evacuation. During this time, I also started a girls’ running club, helped teach science classes, and worked in the community gardens with the women.

Oregon State University

Worked on research in a laboratory within the Biological & Ecological Engineering Department at Oregon State University. Organized field work for the lab group, collected water samples and filtered them on site, extracted bacterial DNA from water filters, and analysed the data from DNA extractions and StreamStats watershed characteristics using Python.

Corvallis, Oregon, United States

Assisted in processing and analysing water samples at CCAL Water Analysis Laboratory. Washed laboratory equipment, logged samples for analysis, prepared and neutralized acid, and made reagents. Conducted suspended sediment, pH, conductivity, and alkalinity analysis on samples. Trained new employees in CCAL laboratory procedures.
