I am a scientific Python developer, educator, and PhD scientist who cares deeply about communicating results and teaching others good programming practices. As a Software Scientist and the Education Lead at The Molecular Sciences Software Institute, I work with scientists and engineers with a wide range of technical abilities and various stages in their careers - from undergraduates just starting their journeys in science and programming, to seasoned industry professionals. I use scientific domain knowledge, software design principles, and strong communication skills to build scientific software and programming tutorials and resources. In my role as a Scientific Software Developer, I work primarily with Python but have experience with other languages such as Javascript, Fortran, and C++. At MolSSI, I am the lead developer for our web job management system for the SEAMM project and am a maintainer for the MolSSI CookieCutter for Python projects. I enjoy collaborating with people around the world to solve scientific problems using software. In my role as Education Lead at MolSSI, I work with and develop custom curricula for clients such as Pfizer Inc and UC Berkeley Masters of Molecular Science and Engineering Program. I also design, maintain, and direct education materials for the education arm of MolSSI, reaching hundreds of students each year. Topics include version control, unit testing, Python programming, Python for Data Science, among others. I am also skilled in teaching course material, and I believe in engaging students and other developers at their level to encourage them to reach their full potential. Courses are listed belowFoundations of Programming and Software Engineering (CHE 280). This is an intensive 2 credit hour course where students use Python and C++ programming to create a Monte Carlo Simulation code. Good coding practices such as style, version control, documentation, and testing are introduced.Introduction to Programming Languages (CHEM 275). This course provides in-depth coverage of programming concepts and techniques required for scientific computing, data science, and high-performance computing using C++ and Python. The course will compare and contrast the functionalities of the two languages. -
