Hey there! My name is Jess (or “JESSICAA!!” if you’re my mother), and I am a creative practitioner in Newcastle, NSW. My work revolves around a few different mediums and I try to dapple in as many areas of the creative industries as I can. I think it’s important to explore working with new mediums as they each inform the other, and as my skills grow in one area, I can apply those skills in an area somewhere else. Growing up I was always involved with the arts in some way and one of my earliest memories is going to a scrapbooking class with my mum and every memory since then has been evolved around some type of sewing, or photography and I have her to thank for that. Our family photo albums are exploding and my family has always been obsessed with taking photos and that’s where my main practise stems from. Photography, painting, sculpture and film are the four main areas that I work in. I’ve had my photographic works exhibited multiple times before but one of my biggest achievements was having my film in which I was the DOP for, shown at a film screening in a REAL cinema. Always busy, I’m currently working on two other films, a major body of work and collection of painted ceramics which will be available for purchase soon but I love always having things to do. My work ethic has always taught me to keep myself occupied and perhaps I take that to the extreme but I couldn’t work any other way.
