Three words I would use to best describe myself are curious, hardworking, and determined. My philosophy is there will always be some facet of my life that I could work on or improve. I am not searching for perfection, rather I am trying to be the best version of me that I possibly can. My goal one day is to be able to develop an interface that will help people with cognitive and mental disabilities better use the technologies that have become so mainstream that we take them for granted. The inspiration to do this primarily comes from watching my older brother, who has Down’s Syndrome, play Fruit Ninja on the tablet my boyfriend gave him. He is able to play the game, but someone has to open the app for him and navigate the menus. Seeing him not be able to fully use the tablet made me want to find a way to make it easier for him. During the course of my study at UNC Charlotte, I have been interested in interactive systems and Human Computer Interaction. For my senior project, myself and two other students built an interactive paint program called Move Painter for the Residents of the Sharon Towers Retirement Center to help encourage residents to be more active. Even though I am finished with school, I plan to develop interactive apps in my free time. My personal philosophy has taken me to very interesting places. My desire to improve personally, led me to move to Charlotte from Charleston, South Carolina and to eventually enroll at UNC Charlotte. After working for several years in the restaurant industry as an Assistant Manager, I decided that I wanted more. I love to travel, and the most exotic place I’ve been is Cambodia. Where I spent two months while taking a break from school. I plan to add more stamps to my passport, and my goal is to run out of pages before it expires. I love hiking, and to a lesser extent camping. I like finding out how things work and then trying to create them myself.
