I am a graduate of the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a concentration in Organismal Biology and Ecology. In March of 2021, I began a visitor services internship at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge sponsored by the Friends of Ottawa NWR. A major accomplishment during this internship was leading the Bird Friendly Facility Challenge, which brought bird friendly measures to our facilities to reduce bird-window collisions. This internship ended in December of 2021, but I became a visitor services intern at Ottawa NWR again, this time through Environment for the Americas. From January 2022 - January 2023 I continued my roles at Ottawa NWR, including managing social media content, providing interpretation and environmental programming, and assisting with biological surveys. I received an American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification in February of 2022. My interest for birds and nature grew tremendously during this internship, as I was able to work on the refuge rather than from home like I had during the pandemic. In January 2023, I became the Community Engagement Coordinator at Ottawa NWR through the Career Pathways Program, newly created by the Friends of Ottawa NWR. Thus far, my major accomplishment is starting a collision monitoring program in downtown Toledo, Ohio to monitor and collect data and specimens of bird-window collisions.My career goal would be to continue working in the conservation field in an avian and/or biology related position.
