I am Jess Goodwin; I am currently in my third of study at Dalhousie University. Here I am doing an undergraduate degree environment, sustainability and society and an honours in international development. My courses generally focus on the international economy, how it affects us and how our decisions affect it. I do believe we are in the midst of the most important call to action our generation will ever see. Due to raising inequality, rapid inflation, mass extinction rates and climate change the world is becoming a very dire place. However, with the right actions we can create new systems that foster equitable distribution of capital and goods. This is why I chose to undertake a degree in sustainability and development. I am particularly passionate about reducing food waste and creating equitable food distribution systems to end world hunger. We have enough food for every person on the planet to eat in a caloric surplus, but more than 800 million people are going hungry. These statistics brought about my interest in pursuing a career in agricultural development. If we can make the foods people need affordable and accessible, we can eliminate world hunger. I am looking to build a career in agriculture with a company that is committed to getting food to the people who need it most. I want to employ systems that utilize a ground up approach and focus on helping those most in need, by consulting those most in need.
