Underdog Devs is a nonprofit that empowers software engineers to mentor and help launch the careers of formerly incarcerated & disadvantaged aspiring developers.Mentored a former welder through the course of eight months. Took on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help longtime friends kickstart their dream. Was brought on at the start of July to help build marketing and web presence from zero for the first season of the Festival in mid-August. Owned conception, design, and execution for the website, social media, and SEO. Also designed physical posters and put them up around the city, and contacted local reporters, resulting in spotlights on Minnesota Public Radio and in the Duluth News Tribune. The mainstage concert, held on a Thursday night, packed the first floor of the 350-seat hall.Wore various operational hats. Ads Data: - Simplified complex hourly pipelines and sped up hourly metrics production by 50%. - Migrated queries from Hive to unit-tested, more extensible Cascading jobs. - Earned the highest possible spot bonus, for non-oncall firefighting.Ads Measurement: - Wrote the first version of the Pinterest Tag, Pinterest’s Javascript conversion and retargeting pixel, and the data pipeline (a mix of Hive and Cascading jobs) to compute conversion metrics with flexible attribution windows and store them in HBase. Wrote supporting full-stack web code to integrate the tag and metrics into the Pinterest advertiser site.- Helped advertisers debug their Tag implementation during alpha testing. Helped write and edit advertiser-facing documentation for the Tag. - Conceived of and wrote docs for internal Analysts and Operations (e.g. overview of conversion tracking, how to query internal data). Gave informal training talks about conversion tracking internally.

Nov 2014 - Dec 2015: Nuclide, an open source IDE (https://nuclide.io/) built on top of the popular Atom text editor. Contributed my first open source code. Added the Gutter API to Atom, which unlocked building features like "run test inline" into Atom. - Issue: https://github.com/atom/atom/issues/5038- PR: https://github.com/atom/atom/pull/5217Mar 2013 - Nov 2014: iOS (Mentions, Product Infra, Newsfeed). Learned a lot more about how to structure code than about how to build iOS apps. Never built a single UIView. Learned how painful Xcode crashing on top of a 15-minute clean build can be, and joined Nuclide to try to help.
