My work as a tutor with San Diego Learning Center was a challenging and rewarding experience. I mainly worked at our Barona branch and most of my students were part of the local tribe. Each tutor would assist up to three K-12 students each hour with assigned homework or test prep, or with enrichment programs set by the center. We were also tasked with documenting student progress and behavior with detailed notes at the end of each hour. This job taught me about patience and perseverance as I had to adjust my teaching style based on the age and behavior of the kids I was working with.

As an Instructional Assistant in a Health & Wellness course (Students Teaching Alcohol and other drug Responsibility) at UCSB, I had the opportunity to aide instructors with all classroom activities and intern training. Although I worked with the instructors to fulfill their goals of running the classroom, I maintained a level of independence by setting standards and grading homework and exams. Intern training involved researching and sharing relevant articles and facilitating discussions to further our continuing education in alcohol and other drugs. My goal in this position was to help produce future interns to be knowledgeable, self-motivating, and creative thinkers to maintain and advance the program.
