Conduct child custody investigations, complete guardianship reviews, work at the Ingham County Self Help legal aid clinic

1Coordinates or provides timely services and casework needs to all assigned Agency consumers, families, and foster families as required by Program-specific procedures, applicable contract terms, and/or applicable local, state, and federal regulatory and/or other accrediting agencies. Ensures accurate, professional, and timely completion of all required reports, logs, notes, and other paperwork as required.(3.) Monitors and provides necessary services to Agency consumers, families, and foster families. Ensures accurate, professional, and timely completion of all Agency-required reports, paperwork, and filings. Attends, conducts, or participates in all case conferences, hearings, assessments, home visits, etc. as required. Coordinates treatment services with appropriate local, state, or federal agencies and/or community resources. May be required to provide case management of initial placements through the intake process. May be required to initiate contact with birth family and conduct various follow-ups within recommended timeframes facilitating youth adjustment. May be required to provide assistance to foster parents ensuring, where applicable, that youth has appropriate clothing for the placement, school enrollment, and medical and/or dental exam within required timeframes after initial placement. May be required to facilitate training for families and foster families. May be required to travel to other Michigan counties

Working with families to address and rectify issues that have caused children to be at a risk of harm, ensure child safety, manage a caseload, write reports, work alongside the court system and law enforcement to meet a common goal, Forensically Interview children, provide services to families, identify needs and strengths of family units, build rapports with families, and work with a diverse group of individuals.

Works with up to 6 male/female clients, ages 16-20, in an 18 month residential program. Assists residents with daily routine, including hygiene, and self-care issues, planning personal schedules and leisure times, teaching daily living skills, and providing transportation when necessary. Helps facilitate resident house meetings. Assist in observing all health, fire, and safety regulations, as well as assuring all resident health, medical, and safety needs are met.

Monitor CCV cameras in interior and exterior of the building; conduct bi-hourly interior and exterior rounds of the building; ensure patron safety on event days; watch for criminal or suspicious activity; conduct pat-downs and metal detection of patrons and employees entering the facility; respond to medical calls; mediate incidents of conflict; report writing; investigate incidents that occurred on the property.

Accompanied officers in their day-to-day tasks as a law enforcement officer, which included tasks such as: traffic stops, ticket writing, report writing, arrests, substance testing, booking, processing, investigating, searches, and desk and records duties. I also worked with the department's K9 Unit, Criminal Investigation (Detective) Unit, and Traffic Unit. Through this internship, I learned how to interact and communicate with individuals accused of criminal conduct, the mentally ill, and the families and witnesses of victims. A major component of my internship was report writing-- which has become something I am quite skilled at.

Assist customers with any questions or help they need; communicate directly with customers, especially angry or dissatisfied customers; engage in conflict resolution; watch for illicit conduct, such as fraud, theft, misuse of WIC/EBT cards, and forgery.
