Update 2022: I am a first year graduate student at LSU - New Orleans and am getting an MPH in Health Policy and Systems Management. After my time with City Year, I began nonprofit work at HandsOn New Orleans. Here, I helped run a COVID food distribution program which delivered fresh produce to approximately 900 home-bound senior citizens in the New Orleans area, eventually I took lead on the program and helped expand it to 1700 seniors a week. I did this through the end of my contract and then started looking at graduate schools. I became a bartender at the National War World II Museum to help earn some extra money for school and now that I am enrolled, I'm looking to transition my skills back into research and start helping influence policy change. Graduated May 2020 with a Public Health Sociology bachelor's from OSU with a minor in Bioethics. I have since relocated to New Orleans as a member of AmeriCorp’s City Year program as of June 2020. For City Year, I will be working directly with students, supporting their development, growth and success in systemically under-resourced schools. I was research assistant at OSU and hope to find another research position soon. I spent time working on a project called, “Police Violence: A Shift Towards Impact on Black Women.” Most of the research around police violence revolves around the experience of black men; we hope to start to create a more balanced picture by interviewing black women on their experiences with police. After City Year in New Orleans, I will begin looking at graduate school. I am interested in health equity and the ethical distribution of our health resources. I hope to get involved in the policy side of public health to help analyze health policies and their impact on vulnerable communities.
