Currently serving as Executive Director of Joule Advisory Services covering Europe and the US, I am an accomplished leader with 15 years of experience in clean tech, project finance, policy advocacy, and strategic advisory. I have directed the processing of over $230M in small to medium clean energy investments, introducing these to investors. Directed core activities such as the processing and presentation of over 250 million euros in projects to a range of investors. Cooperated with some 23 investment funds (banks and specialty funds).

Founder And Managing DirectorSmarten Smart Energy Europe Nov 2010 - 2015Brussels, Brussels Region, BelgiumFounded SmartEn while acting as Chair of VaasaETT, in response to client requests over a clear disparity between US and EU regulation concerning Smart Metering. While the US had less technology installed, program development, investor returns and consumer benefits were higher. In Europe, smart grid technologies were installed but largely unused. SmartEn focused primarily on Demand Response and other smart grid enabled programs. Within 1 year the SmartEn Members included aggregators, electricity retailers, DSOs, TSOs, ESCOs and technology providers, all in all serving over 150 million European consumers.When we founded the organize, Demand Response was blocked in all but 2 European countries. The first action was to gather the members and create a report for the Commission on how EU regulations were explicitly blocking market growth and the cost of this to both consumers, environmental impact and financial returns. The second was to write and lobby for changes to the Energy Directive. This lobby effort was successful, and Demand Response was established across the continent. After only 2 years, SmartEN was named one of the top 5 most powerful Lobby groups within energy in Brussels by EuroActive. These accomplishments were made possible by ensuring that the membership represented the entire market (many of whom opposed each other publicly) and insisting that opposing members work together to create a common vision and plan, then translating this plan into a laser focus on demonstrating the cost and benefits of regulatory decisions to both the public and the European Commissions. The combination was effective. -
