I am presently a student at Bow Valley College working my way towards a Diploma in Early Leaning and Child Care. I am happy to say I have found a field that I am passionate about. I love working with children as much as I enjoy being with a great team of caregivers working towards a same goal. I believe that play is the most important part of a young child’s life for their development in all developmental areas. I have completed 2 practicums at 2 different daycares and I can already see what kind of setting I would love to work in when I graduate. I value a safe, healthy environment that focuses on the needs of each individual child. My first practicum experience was a total of 80 hours with a group of older toddlers. I was able to focus and learn more about this age group and it was easy for me to relate theory to practice.For my second practicum I was placed at Louise Dean School with a group of infants. I adored every minute of the 135 hours I worked there. I was able to work with infants and see their progress throughout the weeks. It is very rewarding to see a child take their first steps or say their first words, knowing that you played a part in helping them in those developmental areas.Having the chance to get the hands on experience confirmed my love for this field. My goals are to graduate in 2011 and to find a work setting that will help me become the best childhood educator that I can be.
