Managing a global ocean policy programme that provided technical and policy expertise and analysis to the WWF network, managing the budget and the relationship with the corporate sponsor, and participating in key global policy meetings (UN, IMO, FAO, Interpol, etc.). I learned to engage with the corporate sector and how to use policy as a driver for industry change, and vice versa how to harness progressive industry for policy change.

Project assistant in marine scientific research at the Institute of Marine Sciences, Zanzibar, Tanzania, a project funded by the Swedish Development Agency (Sida/SAREC). Project design, field research, laboratory work and report writing, supporting two post-doctoral students. I learned about sustainable development on the ground, and the value of science in underpinning conservation.
