The mission of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights is to promote the best interests of unaccompanied immigrant children with due regard to the child’s expressed wishes, according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Young Center is a champion for the best interests of children who arrive in the United States on their own, from all corners of the world. We serve as trusted allies for these children by accompanying them through court proceedings, advocating for their best interests, and standing for the creation of a dedicated juvenile immigrant justice system that ensures the safety and well-being of every child. Director of Grants• Communications: Utilize strong writing ability and keen knowledge of audience to write grants and persuasive concept notes for a variety of potential funders, raising $1.1 million in grant funding in 2015 • Strategic growth and budget management: Evaluate the organization's budget and future financial goals, developing long-range fundraising strategies, including plans to secure large grants from reputable foundations. Heshima Kenya is the first organization in Kenya dedicated to protecting and empowering unaccompanied refugee children and youth, with a special focus on girls, young women and their children. In Chicago, our small team supports the efforts of our on-the-ground programs through development, fundraising, grant writing, advocacy and evaluation. As the Grants and Advocacy Officer, my duties include: • Working with the Nairobi team to drive the advocacy agenda, which includes researching, writing and releasing reports on critical issues affecting the population served• Creating the monitoring and evaluation plan for short and long-term outcomes for all programs• Analyzing and compiling macro data regarding investing in girls to compare with program outcomes to demonstrate success • Designing and producing charts and graphs to describe and interpret statistical outcomes • Working with the team to research grants and write proposals, which has resulted in a 33% increase in the organizational budget • Traveling to New York City; Washington DC; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Nairobi, Kenya to represent Heshima Kenya at key events and workgroups; meet with funders and advocacy groups; and identify potential funding sources• Managing the Summer Internship Program, identifying and selecting 3 summer interns, and directly supervising Grants Intern

Since its inception, the Ounce of Prevention Fund has pursued the single goal: that all American children – particularly those born into poverty – have quality early childhood experiences in the crucial first five years of life.
