Citrus Biosecurity Manager
🍊 🍋🍃 🔍Citrus Australia is the peak industry body for Australian citrus growers. My role at Citrus Australia includes: - Team member of CitrusWatch, the Australian citrus industry biosecurity preparedness and training program. - Coordinator of industry exotic pest surveillance and data collection activities. - Team member of ACIAR/NSW DPI project ‘HLB preparedness and management in Australia and Indonesia’. - Manager of the Citrus Pest & Disease Prevention Committee. - Oversight of strategic industry priorities related to citrus industry biosecurity.
Lead - Extension
🌾 🐮 🍓 🪰 Cesar Australia has a team of dedicated and talented researchers and an emphasis on really achieving the 'applied' aspect of science. Cesar Australia punches above its weight, working in partnership with clients, using cutting edge science, technology and research to develop innovative solutions in agricultural crop protection and wildlife conservation. It employs a range of research techniques such as fauna surveys, population genetics, environmental DNA (with the help of sister company EnviroDNA), predictive modelling, and bioassays to find the solution to real world problems. As Team Lead - Extension I supported research to adoption across multiple agricultural industries. Extension and communication activities in grains, dairy and horticulture included developing masterclasses, running seminars, providing crop pest (and crop beneficial) identifications, developing seasonal crop protection reports, and prediction tools.
National Manager - Science And Extension
🌽 🌶 🥬 AUSVEG is the prescribed peak industry body (PIB) for the Australian vegetable and potato industries. To help growers and the industry succeed, it focuses on core activities, including: advocacy, service provision, statutory role as an Eligible Industry Body under the Excise Levies Regulations. During my time at AUSVEG I performed the role of National Manager - Science & Extension where I led the expansion of AUSVEG’s capabilities in the areas of science and extension. This included working on industry projects and initiatives spanning agrichemical usage, food safety, R&D extension, and exotic plant pest response and preparedness, notably cucumber green mottle mosaic virus, tomato potato psyllid, and exotic vegetable leafminer.A large part of my work involved representing the vegetable and potato industries on a specialtechnical committee – the Consultative Committee on Emergency Plant Pests (the CCEPP). The CCEPPis formed as a part of our plant biosecurity emergency response system when we detect a new plant pest in the country. It assesses the potential to eradicate a pest based on its biology, the controltools we have on hand, and the resources needed. This is a role that allowed me to make good usemy background in biology and scientific training. Another important part of my work with AUSVEG involved educating growers and supply chain about our complex biosecurity system, how it works, and what to expect if there is a pest incursion, as well as delivering training in development of farm biosecurity plans.
