Local EthnographerProject Contract 10/2001-10/2002; 10/2004-04/2005[Anthropological/Ethnographic Data Collection and Analysis, Qualitative Coding, and Quantitative Analysis of Trend Data] Accomplishments:• Conducted Tampa area local ethnographic and historical research as part of the U.S. Department of Labor Program Evaluation of the Youth Opportunity Program. • Conducted interviews, observations, photo essay, text analysis, and quantitative analysis with program participants, program staff/administrators, government staff, and neighborhood stakeholders in the Tampa area. • Coordinated and organized local research involving multiple levels of participant interaction.• Reported and make program evaluation recommendations based on local findings.

Planning Research Analyst II[Planning, evaluation, research]Accomplishments:• Reviewed and evaluated the accuracy of annual population and housing estimates, including estimates of the population of persons homeless and existing shelter space available. Made recommendations and implemented projects to increase the overall accuracy of estimates for use in planning.• Reviewed and made recommendations regarding several existing or planned Special Service Districts/Special Assessment areas, including those based on the Tampa Streetcar Line, Tampa Heights, and Tampa Downtown areas.• Created a database of ongoing major developments in the City of Tampa and used that database to create regular reports for use in planning and assessments.• Assisted in the creation, implementation, and tracking of City Performance Measures for the Department of Strategic Planning and Technology.• Created organizational mapping to assist in mayoral transition.• Successfully completed the Census Count Question Resolution and identified multiple populations that had initially been undercounted in the 2000 U.S. Census.

Ethnographic ConsultantProject Contract 01/2002-02/2002[Ethnography, analysis]Accomplishments:• Used rapid assessment ethnographic research methods to assess the impact of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York on attitudes and plans for travel by individuals in the U.S.• Focused on qualitative research with passengers in airports in the Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, and Central Florida areas to provide consistent and complementary data for use in analysis of results from ethnographic consultants working in different regions across the U.S.• Incorporated visual anthropology/photo essay, text analysis, interviews, and situational observation to provide additional depth to the analysis.
