Classroom Teacher
Year Group Lead
Currently, I am Year Group Lead for Year 2 at Harrow International School Shanghai. This position requires leading and line managing a cohort of Year 2 class teachers and learning support assistants to monitor the continued progress and attainment of Year 2 pupils. Within this position, I oversee curriculum and assessment planning, lead weekly team meetings, conduct lesson observations and learning walks for key areas of focus, hold staff members accountable for their planning and teaching, and offer support and feedback to colleagues where required. To ensure all children thrive, I lead my team in providing a range of targeted interventions for our pupils, as well as running regular parent workshops to support parents in assisting their child’s development at home. I work closely with the Head of Phase and the Marketing team, offering additional open classrooms for prospective parents. Other responsibilities include: • House Mistress for Lower School (Rothschild House)• Choreographer for Harrow’s performance at Disneyland Shanghai
Ks1 Reading Leader
In 2020, I was selected for the NPQML (National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership) online course through UCL (University College London). Modules covered in this course were: Leading with Impact, Leading Learning and Teaching, Leading Effective Partnerships, and Leading Strategically. I thoroughly enjoyed applying the theory within my role as the KS1 Reader Leader and Year Group Lead for Year 2. As the KS1 Reader Leader, I was given training in the Destination Reader programme by Hackney Trust. My role was to adapt the KS2 programme to suit the needs of our KS1 pupils, so there was consistency through the Pre-Prep and challenge for the higher-ability pupils during streamed phonics sessions. My implementation of this skills-based programme successfully deepened comprehension and improved pupil progress and attainment. Pupils achieving ‘Greater Depth’ in comprehension assessments increased from 18.9% to 37.3% within one term. My project supported the 2020/21 School Improvement Plan and has continued to operate each academic year for all pupils in Year 2, successfully closing the gap between EAL and native English speakers. Other requirements of this role included: conducting CPD sessions for teaching and support staff within KS1 and KS2; engaging in regular meetings with SLT members; collecting and reviewing data to analyse pupil progress; conducting lesson observations; running training for parents to strengthen parent engagement; handling budget and placing book orders.
Classroom Teacher
While working at Harrow International School Shanghai, I have strengthened my skills in teaching and planning for pupils with English as an additional language. Educating Year 2 pupils throughout my entire experience at Harrow permitted me the opportunity to focus on my professional goals of continuing to reflect and refine my teaching practice. I have spent time broadening my knowledge of a wide range of programmes that align with the British National Curriculum, to enhance my teaching and future leadership opportunities. In addition, I was part of the Marking and Feedback Policy team at Harrow and designed the marking policy used across the school. My main aim was to ensure that the marking criteria and feedback coding system were appropriate for Pre-Prep learners and manageable for all teachers. I was part of the ‘Wellbeing Committee’ for two years, including during the global pandemic and Shanghai lockdown. We aimed to maintain a joyful, positive working environment for all staff members on campus while being away from their families for a significant amount of time. During the lockdown, the Wellbeing Committee met regularly to discuss how we could provide a safe and supportive community, ensuring all members had access to food, water, social interaction, and care.Other responsibilities include:• Lead Organiser of the Japan Ski Trip 2019 (Years 5 – 10)• Gymnastics & Cheerleading ECA • Drama ECA
Primary School Teacher
My time at Dulwich Prep London provided me with the skills required to teach at exceptional, high-achieving independent schools. This experience allowed me the opportunity to closely monitor, assess and compare the progress of our pupils’ educational journey across key stages. Requirements of this role included setting individualised learning goals each term and conducting communication meetings with parents to ensure all pupils continued to progress throughout the entire year. The technology and facilities available within this school supported the planning of remarkable learning programmes with an innovative 21st-century learning approach at the forefront.
