MU Strategic Communication’s capstone course exists as a student-run advertising agency. Each student group must create a campaign for a real client, and all are required to conduct primary and secondary research to solidify strategy. As the teaching assistant for this course, I advised every group on research methods, analysis and insight gathering, in addition to assisting in the facilitation of the course as a whole.

When I began in this position, I was responsible for creating content for MU Strategic Communication's LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Now, I work to develop content plans and ideas for the current social media coordinator and PR coordinator.

Our company publishes three magazines - the Columbia Business Times, COMO Living, and Jefferson City Magazine. As an account manager, most of my job involves working with clients who advertise in our magazines. I will speak with clients about their needs and goals, and from there, I will develop a plan for either a campaign or a singular ad. I will pass my art direction on to our designers and then begin communication for the editing process between the designers and clients. Part of my job includes planning events hosted by all three magazines. We have multiple large events throughout the year that involve a high-level of communication and coordination. Because I began at this company as an intern, I have also taken a leading role in our internship program. Each week we hold meetings to track progress and encourage the interns to set goals for their current jobs as well as explore the many possibilities their industries can hold.

AdZou is part of the capstone program for MU Strategic Communication. It functions as a full-service student-staffed advertising agency and caters to local and national clients. Our team was charged with creating an advertising campaign to tackle distracted driving. As our team's account planner, I directed the research phase of our campaign. This included developing a research plan, executing in-depth interviews, and creating a survey, which was sent to over 1,000 individuals. My purpose after research was complete was to ensure that every aspect of our strategy could be backed up by what we found to be true in our research.
