I had grown up at the Y, and worked to get into a leadership position after college. As a Program Director, I had the great opportunity to provide leadership to a team of team of 40 part time, and 2 full time staff. I was young and eager to advance as quick as I could through the stages of professional life. During my time at the Y, I managed youth and adult programming with over 800 participants, as well as a competitive gymnastics team of over 100 members. While attending many trainings, and educating myself on leadership skills outside of work, I was able to see my department revenue increase by over 100% year on year, in my first 4 years. Through the trust of my CEO and Associate Director, I began hosting large events of 800-1000 participants, and submitted a bid to host the National Championships. I learned a lot about how to be a trusted and effective professional during my time at the YMCA.
