Davis Estates is a family owned and operated estate winery located in the northern region of Napa Valley crafting exceptional wines known for their nuance, complexity, and elegance. Best-known for terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignons, Davis Estates also produces exceptional Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and special Bordeaux blends, along with single varietals of everything grown on the estate. The picturesque winery property covers 155 acres, 11 of which are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot. The estate sweeps from the famous Silverado Trail on the valley floor up into the eastern hills, cresting at 1,100 feet. This change of elevation, exposure and micro-climate, combined with a range of well-drained volcanic soils, creates an ideal place to grow their preeminent grapes.

Produce small lot 100% Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Knights Valley, Sonoma County

Manage all aspects of the winery to produce the highest quality wine from estate vineyards. Guide the team to provide red carpet customer service experience on-site and to the 1,800 wine club membership. Oversee accounting, production, sales, marketing, IT and human resources in an intimate environment. Develop growth strategies to optimize sales, profitability, new sources of supply, and efficiency. Work closely with direct to consumer, wholesale and distributor channels in relations to pricing, compliance laws, regulations and procedures. Foster relationships with outside counsel, CPA firm and financial institutions. Travel within the US for brand promotions and portfolio tastings.

Report and communicate regularly with the Board of Directors regarding financial reports and analyses, tax planning, internal control matters, and accounting policies and procedures. Prepare strategic planning, forecasting, and budgeting for five separate, inter-related entities. Designed and maintain all costing models for both winery and farming operations. Manage a staff of two responsible for payroll, A/R, A/P, compliance, sales, taxes, and inter-company billing. Properly position cash flow and cultivate strong banking relationships with lenders regarding reporting requests and conducting appraisal interviews. Coordinate year end business valuation report and maintain family gifting values and percentages. Complete filing of Business and Farm Property statements, financial maintenance of all assets and work with Tax Assessor through audits. Support the annual audit process, including preparation of work papers, coordination and monitoring of the activities of the company’s independent accountants for two S Corporations, two Partnerships and an LLC.

Reviewed balance sheet, reconciled bank statements and general ledger monthly and maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts. Maintained and reconciled standard vs. actual costs for bulk wine, raw materials, work in progress, and finish goods perpetual inventory at multiple locations with various perpetual monthly spreadsheets and posted all associated journal entries and movements. Reported and monitored distributor, retail and wine club sales along with COGS. Tracked and applied overhead and reported all variances to upper management. Approved related journal entries and reconciliations in connection with the month end financial close for a staff of two responsible for A/R, A/P, compliance, sales and use taxes, and inter-company transfers. Managed the winery’s operating costs, fixed assets, and tracked all capital expenditures and variances. Produced and reviewed cost center budgets with all department managers; Winemaking, Vineyards, Hospitality, Culinary, and Landscaping. Prepared TTB Report of Wine Premises Operations, property taxes filings, grape crush reports, and other winery related reports. Designed various analytical and comparative spreadsheets to monitor results and effects.

Managed all vineyard accounts and reporting, compiled and analyzed annual budgets, managed forecasting, cash flow, crop estimates and worked closely with senior management for all financial needs. Prepared monthly journal entries, performed all month and year-end closing activities, designed/automated and managed new payroll system. Reconciled all vineyard accounts against general ledger for financial reporting. Tracked vineyard additions and retirements for fixed assets. Assisted Sr. Vice President of Vineyard Operations with grape supply reporting for 10,000 acres of vineyards. Worked closely with winemaking providing support information as needed and implemented a new appellation hierarchy for blends as well as lower, more accurate levels of costing.
