Profile bio

About Jessica Loke

I am curious and I enjoy thinking about problems. My curiosity has taken me through a non-linear career path but it reflects my deep desire to tackle complex problems. This pursuit has not only shaped my professional trajectory but has also instilled in me a belief that a meaningful life is intertwined with the quest for knowledge and solutions. Over the last 7 years, I had the privilege to channel my curiosity by applying deep learning techniques (i.e. artificial neural networks) to unravel insights from neuroimaging data. This adventure led me to:📈 Discover and innovate: By training over 100 artificial neural networks, I've not only mastered data augmentation, hyperparameter-tuning and enhanced model robustness by up to 30%, but also shed light on how we can incorporate machine learning algorithms in data analysis to mimic and understand human cognitive processes. 🧠 Share and influence: I take pride in contributing to the scientific community, with my work featured in esteemed journals like the Journal of Neuroscience and the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience.💭 Lead and Collaborate: I've had the honor of mentoring junior researchers in customizing training datasets, developing robust task-based feature selection strategies that further our understanding and application of neural network technologies. Currently, I am invigorated by the potential of neural networks to decode complex problem spaces across various domains, especially in computer vision. My aim is to leverage my expertise in Python, R, MATLAB, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Caffe, OpenCV, Scikit-learn, Git and Linux. to push the boundaries of what's possible in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Master Thesis

Uva

Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

In this EEG project, we investigated the roles and occurrence of feedback in the brain when recognizing objects in natural scenes. We hypothesized that the occurrence of feedback is related to task difficulty – the more difficult the task, the more feedback is necessary. With a total of 79 participants, we confirmed our hypothesis that feedback is necessitated by task difficulty. This project was supervised by dr. H. Steven Scholte.

Internship Project

Uva

Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

In this project, we investigated the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on visual working memory precision. We used a double-blinded, sham-controlled, within-subject experimental design. Twenty-four subjects received sham, anodal and cathodal stimulation during three separate experimental sessions plus one learning session. Our results revealed null-effects of tDCS stimulation on visual working memory precision. This project was supervised by dr. Ilja Sligte.
