I have five years in the food and beverage industry. I started out at 16 working the cash register at Culver's, a fast food restaurant. Since then, I have worked a variety of jobs in the industry and have finally began being trained as the new bar manager of the family-owned pizza ship, Krazy Karl's as they are about to open their second store. Upon starting college, I thought my dream was to be a physical therapist, but as I went through my first semester at Colorado State, I realized this was all wrong for me. I wanted a degree in which I could work with people and learn from them, so in my second year at Colorado State, I changed my major to Communications, where I specifically want to study Interpersonal Communications. The hardest part for me was I wanted to continue to work in the food and beverage industry. When I was hired on at Krazy Karl's they gave me the opportunity to work behind the bar before being 21, something legal in Colorado, but very unlikely. Since then, they have given me opportunities and skills in order to further my career in the industry by giving me responsibilities like training new employees and purchasing beer and am now making me the new bar manager with the new location. I had to put my degree on hold for a little while to gain this knowledge and these experiences, but when I do graduate in spring of 2018, I will be able to take my degree, majoring in communications and minoring in business, and be able to apply it in the industry I have passion for, food and beverage. Post graduation, I hope to either continue with Krazy Karl's helping them to expand or go on to working at small craft brewery and be able to watch it grow.
