As an Engineer-in-Training, I assisted with hydraulic modeling for water distribution projects, general water and sewer project management, writing project reports and assisting with water and wastewater permitting. I grew into a Professional Engineer with WestLand and developed as an assistant Project Engineer for water and wastewater projects.

Rock Island District

I worked as a Civil Engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. I am working in the Civil & Environmental Engineering section, which focuses on both civil works and environmental projects. This included project engineering oversight, working with a team to accomplish the design with the proper reviews and process. Some project types included streambank protection, bridge protection, habitat restoration along the Mississippi River, flood risk management/protection, and civil works projects for the US Army.

The Campus Bike Center is an affiliation between The University of Illinois and The Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign. It an educational workspace where we teach members how to work on their own bikes. I learned how to work with members to problem solve, to coach members through bike mechanics, to advocate for and support sustainable transportation, and to add to the biking community.

I continued the research I started in fall 2014 during the summer of 2015. I again worked with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to determine the effectiveness of using enzymes for water treatment of chlorite. I finalized the procedure for toxicology experiments of chlorite on our bacteria of choice, and I worked on column experiments using an enzyme to treat chlorite contaminated water. I learned organization, scheduling experiments over many days, data analysis, working with other students in lab, and data presentation.

Working under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to determine the effectiveness of using enzymes for water treatment of chlorite. I designed and implemented my own experiments to grow bacteria, harvest enzymes, and experiment with chlorite treatment. I learned biology lab procedures, aseptic techniques, creating and organizing a complete biological experiment, data analysis, record keeping, and data presentation.

I worked on updating the current Village infrastructure data with GIS technology. The projects that I've worked on are:1. Surveying and sidewalk data collection using the Collector App for ESRI2. Updating the Village storm sewer map by comparing AutoCAD drawings versus the GIS data3. The creation of the Glen Ellyn Parkway Tree Inventory Map, using ArcMap4. Adding storm and sanitary sewer information from As-builts into the Village Utility GIS Map, using ArcMap5. Analyzing As-built drawings to input sewer information into the Village GIS sewer map

Main responsibilities included managing all library computer and technology and helping patrons use the equipment and the printing system at College of DuPage Library. I also worked closely with patrons to coach them in solving individual technical problems.
