Analyze criminal trials of journalists and human rights defenders in Asia, Africa and Europe. Draft trial monitoring reports on violations of international human rights law.

Constructed a human rights profile of Libya for the EU Delegation to Libya. The profile included an analysis of key human rights issues, an assessment of the domestication of Libya's international human rights obligations, and a mapping of relevant domestic and international actors.

Evaluated the impacts and lessons learned of the EU's global programme supporting human rights defenders (ProtectDefenders.eu), with a specific focus on Syria, Colombia and the Philippines.

Designed, implemented and managed research on security and justice issues. Specific projects included:o Mapping study on conditions for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and protection concernso Study on justice pathways available to refugee SGBV survivors in Ethiopiao Quantitative research study on reintegration challenges faced by Afghan migrants and refugees recently returned to Afghanistan. Contributed to program assessments, evaluations and design. Specific projects included: o Final evaluation of the EU’s cooperation with Afghanistan (2007-2016), leading on topics relating to human rights, rule of law, policing, governance and trafficking.o Technicals input into threat and drug trafficking assessments for UNODC in South and Southeast Asia.o The development and design of DANIDA democracy and human rights programming in Afghanistan and Ethiopia

Conducted mid-program and final evaluations of ISLP's multi-year program in Myanmar, which provided strategic legal assistance to empower civil society, human rights activists, and communities fighting against the harms of economic development.

Co-led research study on access to justice and informal justice systems in Rakhine State, Kachin State and Shan State. • Interviewed justice sector officials and local community leaders.• Led analysis of qualitative data, including case studies, FGDs, and key informant interviews. Thematic issues analysed include: SGBV, discrimination, civil documentation, natural resource extraction, conflict and displacement, land use and confiscation, drugs, indebtedness, access to public services, and customary and informal justice mechanisms.• Developed briefing papers and programmatic recommendations based on findings.• Co-authored three reports.• Wrote communications material relating to the research study.

Conducted research and wrote briefing papers on women’s access to justice, judicial accountability and justice sector reform in Myanmar. Contributed to UNDP Myanmar's inputs to CEDAW and UPR reporting process.Helped lead UNDP’s coordinating role among UN Agencies, donors and NGOs engaged in rule of law work in Myanmar. Created a database of involved organizations.Contributed to the UN Gender Theme Group advocacy activities around the Suppression of Prostitution Act and the Prevention of Violence Against Women bill.Served as a panelist at a workshop on women in the peace process in Kachin State.

Engaged in human rights research and advocacy projects under faculty supervision:• Corruption in Uganda - Carried out field research and interviewed members of civil society, lawyers and government actors in Uganda. Conducted a desk review of anti-corruption laws and mechanisms in Uganda, including a review of cases in the Anti-Corruption Court. Produced an advocacy report and communications material for Human Rights Watch. • Solitary Confinement in Connecticut - Advocated for clients detained in Northern Correctional Facility. Advised policymakers and administrators in reforming prison procedures. Presented research memoranda on evidence-based reforms, which were used for policy development and regulatory reform. • Gender-based violence and CEDAW - Completed a report analyzing CEDAW’s protections for violence against women, including case studies on the use of the Optional Protocol in Bulgaria and the Philippines.

Researched and wrote legal memoranda relating to pleading standards, party proceedings, and extraterritorial jurisdiction of trademark law. Conducted investigations and drafted motions in defense of a tenant facing eviction.

Researched and wrote memoranda on federalism, state restructuring and indigenous people’s rights for the Support for Participatory Constitution Building Project in Nepal. Analyzed Nepal’s proposed Bill of Rights and made recommendations for its compliance with international human rights standards.
