Manager Advisory - Healthcare & Life Sciences
Johannesburg, South Africa
My work was across the public and private healthcare sector in South Africa, highlights include the following; - My most recent project involved leading a team on the verification of the legitimacy of suppliers of PPE and medical equipment for healthcare workers, as part of the national response against Covid-19. - I managed a team on a review and redesign of the operating model for a diagnostic instruments manufacturer. We evaluated the inefficiencies in their operations, strategy, and organisational structure, and subsequently implemented a performance improvement programme to address these inefficiencies and embed the new organisational structure. The second phase of work involved implementing PwC's operational excellence approach aimed at developing team leaders and increasing team efficiency, customer service, and capacity. - My role as a coach on a performance improvement project at a bank taught me how rewarding it is to work closely with managers to help them become better leaders.- On one of my projects for the SA Government I worked on the process design and implementation in a medical stores depot. This involved redesigning and documenting the receiving, picking, and dispatching process. The role was challenging and it taught me how to take people along on a journey of change; from resistance to acceptance.- I worked on developing a system to service healthcare professional's permit and licensing needs. This involved organising client engagements to gather and verify correctness of data, understanding and implementing the client's vision to the system, developing and facilitating client training workshops, and developing communication materials to promote system acceptance and uptake. Of of the most valuable insights on this project was - though this is also quite obvious - that you can only really control what you do yourself, and that you have to be creative, flexible, and sometimes very patient with how you manage other people's responsibilities.
