Playing a critical frontline role in the prevention and detection of crime and maintaining law and order as a Police Constable with the Metropolitan Police, I attend all types of emergency calls, assessing risk, harm and threat to others before determining the correct, proportionate response. In 2013, I received a Borough Commander’s Certificate for saving a male who was trying to commit suicide, physically holding onto him with a colleague until further officers arrived to support us with returning him to safety.Performing regular patrols of the local area, the purpose of these patrols were twofold; firstly, to deter crimes and secondly, to establish and maintain good community relations. Gaining the trust and confidence of the community in itself helps to deter crime as community members feel they can share their concerns with us and we can work together on issues such as anti-social behaviour.Working on initial investigations into crime, I gather evidence through methods such as interviewing victims and witnesses, and obtaining and leading search warrants, to facilitate the initiation of criminal justice proceedings.In addition to my frontline and investigative responsibilities, I was asked to help with training new constables who are still on probation. Supporting them with putting what they have learnt so far into practice, I also provide advice and guidance, regularly checking in with them to ensure not only are they comfortable in what they are doing but are also coping mentally with what can be a very demanding, stressful career. I have found this a very rewarding element of my policing career to see people build their confidence and increase their skills.

Assisting the Custody Sergeant with processing people who had been arrested and were being detained in the Custody Suite, I oversaw their care and welfare whilst in detention as well as ensuring health and safety standards were maintained throughout the Custody Suite. Answering any telephone calls to the Suite from colleagues, legal representatives and family members of detainees, I made sure they were dealt with efficiently and professionally.

Starting my career as a Special Constable on the frontline, I responded to emergency calls, helped to maintain order at public events and supported investigations by conducting house-to-house operations. I also helped to deter crime by completing regular high visibility patrols and taking part in crime prevention initiatives at schools, business and within the community.

To gain some experience and an insight into what a career within the Metropolitan Police Service would involve, I volunteered at the front counter of a police station in the country’s capital, assisting members of the public and colleagues, quickly realising no two days as a police officer were ever the same!

And Creative Car Park (2009)

With IFF Research in 2010, I worked my way through a list of potential customers, contacting them by phone, engaging them in conversation and developing a rapport to secure their participation in the research and ask them questions provided the client.In 2009, I worked with Creative Car Park, as an Office Assistant, sending letters to car park users who had exceeded the allowed time limit for parking and dealing with complaints or appeals once the letters had been received.
