John Burroughs, U.S. National Beat Poet Laureate (2022-2023), is also a playwright and publisher who co-founded the monthly Lix & Kix Poetry Extravaganza and yearly Snoetry: A Winter Wordfest. In 2007, his blog was ranked number one in several categories on MySpace. After that, John created his own website, won his first poetry slam, formed PoetryElyria and Poets of Lorain County, served as webmaster for the Ohio Poetry Association, maintains the Northeast Ohio literary calendar and Cleveland Poetics blog at clevelandpoetry.com, and since 2008 has served as the founding editor of Crisis Chronicles Press. John has also organized hundreds of literary events and has performed his poetry and music at libraries, art galleries, cafes, bookstores, taverns, theaters and festivals across the US. Founder, Community OrganizerPoets Of Lorain County Oct 2010 - Oct 2012I've hosted several poetry reading series, including Poets of Lorain County Present at the Avon Lake Public Library, PoetryElyria at various venues in downtown Elyria, the Elyria edition of 100 Thousand Poets for Change, the Monday at Mahall's Poetry and Prose Series and (with Dianne Borsenik) the monthly Lix and Kix Poetry Extravaganza at Bela Dubby Art Gallery & Beer Cafe in Lakewood. I also co-founded the annual Snoetry: A Winter Wordfest in 2010. The primary function of Poets of Lorain County is to raise awareness and appreciation of the writing arts in northern Ohio, and support and promote local poets and their work. -
