In 2010, the NTHP (Washington, DC) created an innovative initiative to provide Historic Preservation assistance to the US-Mexico border. I was tasked with conveying to both local and national constituencies about potential business opportunities through rehabilitation of historic buildings in a complex and unpredictable binational region. I authored city surveys, urban analyses, and reports to identify portfolios of properties with redevelopment potential. I served as a liaison between the Trust and non-profit organizations, federal and state agencies for fundraising, administration, and implementation of the Trusts’ building rehabilitation grant programs in Texas. This role also required a heavy load of public speaking, media relationships, and community exposure.

With the RVF, I planned the Nelson Scenic Loop, a heritage tourism program to foster economic development in the Blue Ridge Mountains. To promote the program, I produced a website and graphic material and portfolio showcasing its natural assets. I also produced GIS maps of conservation districts, trails, and natural and historic resources in the area. Lastly, I surveyed 106 properties including 18th-century farmsteads and cultural landscapes for the creation of the South Rockfish Rural Historic District. This effort involved conducting public meetings with area residents to garner support for the implementation of the historic district.
