Growing up in the beautiful city of Miami, Florida, I have become accultured to my surrounding of different backgrounds and ethnicities. During my beginning years of undergraduate school, I thought that I desired helping individuals in the medical field, but as I took courses in Psychology, I realized that I enjoyed listening to people instead, and felt compassion to help them. That is when I decided to pursue a career in the field of Psychology, particularly the area of substance abuse due to experiencing individuals dealing with related issues to this area that were personally close to me. Now, as a graduate student at Nova Southeastern University focusing on Substance Abuse Counseling, I plan to help as many future clients as I possibly can to help them combat their issues when it comes to living with addictions while creating professional relationships with them so that they are aware that help is at their reach. This will fill my spirit with compassion, reward, and a sense of well-being. Through different situations and observed experiences, along with my previous knowledge utilized from school work and internships, I will strive to become the ultimate mentor and guide to these clients dealing with difficult life situations, while limiting countertransference for the sake of the therapeutic relationship.
