I have been working in consulting and Information technology for 25 years. If I can say one thing I learned, everything changes, and you must keep learning. I am a person that takes it very seriously to learn new things. I like to combine what I know and can with what I didn’t know and did not do before. I firmly believe that sharing what you know is an effective way to grow. I wrote hundreds of blogs, presented at conferences, and contributed to open-source projects and books. I hope to keep doing this for years to come.Besides educating myself on a technical basis, I also wanted to grow in other areas. I attended personal leadership and communication training. In the past years, I have been trained as a Coach and helped multiple colleagues become the company's next leaders.I am a family man. I have a wife and two sons who are self-claimed adults now. I like to ride my motorbike and take my photo camera to take pictures of beautiful things that nature brings.A few of my guilty pleasures: I still buy printed books, I play video games on the Playstation, and I have to buy a t-shirt at each hard rock cafe I visit.Things I am proud of- I am focussing on the last years. These are a few things I did that made me feel proud.About five years ago, I wanted to become part of an open and online community. With my background in Elasticsearch and Solr, a search community felt right. I found the Search Relevance community and learned the Learning To Rank plugin in Elasticsearch. I took up the big task of migrating to a newer version of Elasticsearch. I finished it and got myself acquainted with the maintainers of the plugin.- I have always thought about writing a book. I contributed a few chapters to other books like Elasticsearch in Action but never did my own book. Last year, I was asked to write an online training course for Manning. After a few months, almost 200 people started the training, and the feedback is overall very positive.- This year (2023) I was selected to be a speaker at the Haystack Conference in the USA. I have been speaking at conferences for a long time, but this was my first time at a search conference outside of Europe. I took my presentation further by introducing two characters, Frank and Amy. I got lovely feedback, and it gave me a boost in confidence.
