About Jetty Mathurin

Theatre, acting, cabaret, hosting or writing columns. Jetty Mathurin (born 1951 in Paramaribo, Suriname) does it all. She started her career as a teacher and a speech therapist. She used to have a private practice for speech therapy and worked at various schools.During the late eighties she switched careers and entered the world of theatre and television. She has performed eleven successful solo shows. The last of which was ' De Overdracht' in 2017. This was a farewell to her onewomanshows, but luckily not to theatre in general. On the night of her last soloshow on november 27 2017 she received the Frans Banninck Cocq Penning. This prestigious prize is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the city of Amsterdam. She owes her reputation to her appearance in several Dutch Theatre Productions such as 'Faja', 'De Koningin van Paramaribo', 'Mathurin Meets Music' , 'the Vagina Monologues', 'A Raisin in the Sun' and 'Beneatha’s Place'
