The reactivity of the organometallic precursors and nano catalysts were checked for the formation of organic carbonates from suitable alcohols and carbon dioxide under supercritical conditions.• Reactions were carried out at temperature of about 150°C and pressure of about 200 bars in specially designed autoclaves. Multinuclear NMR, IR, GC, GC-MS, particle size analyser, etc was used for the characterization of the precursors and catalysts. -
Postdoctoral Research FellowIndian Institute Of Chemical Technology Dec 1999 - Apr 2003Hyderabad, India• Completed an Industrial Scale project sponsored by a pharmaceutical company, on the synthesis of 2-aminothiophenol starting from 2-chlorobenzene by a cost-effective method. The product was air-sensitive and hence the reaction was done completely under nitrogen atmosphere, rigorously excluding air. This was then up scaled to industrial scale. This work resulted in an Indian patent• Synthesis of novel and different types of zirconocene catalysts was carried out. These catalysts were heterogenised on solid support and their effect on the polymerization reactions was monitored. Zirconcene dichloride catalysed ring-opening reactions of 1,2-epoxides in the presence of primary, secondary, tertiary, cyclic and unsaturated alcohols resulted in the formation of b-alkoxy alcohols in excellent yields with high regio- and stereoselectivity.|• Lanthanide catalyzed organic transformations were carried out for ring opening of aziridines. This unique activation of organonitriles facilitated simultaneous ring opening and N-alkylation of activated aziridines and resulted in isolation of N-alkylated β-aminonitriles, which are precursors to β-amino acids. This work resulted in a US patent.
