I was an instructor for CS 349: User Interfaces across multiple terms. I developed course materials (lectures, assignments, exams), and taught three sessions per week to multiple sections of computer science and software engineering students. Topics: toolkit design (event dispatch, windowing systems), 2D graphics, UI design patterns and principles, mobile design, Java and Android development.

Intel acquired RapidMind in Aug 2009. The engineering team joined Intel’s Array Building Blocks (ArBB) engineering team to develop a generalized data parallel programming model. I was the site manager for the Waterloo office, responsible for day-to-day operations, and managing the local engineering effort. As ArBB engineering manager, I coordinated the efforts of a large distributed project team (35-40 engineers and QA staff across 5 international offices), and worked with our Project Management team to coordinate releases.

RapidMind provided a development platform to parallelize applications across multi-core and stream processors, including Intel and AMD x86, GPUs and the Cell BE/PS3. I was the Director of Engineering for the office. My primary responsibilities included growing the team, driving product development and strategy, establishing engineering processes within the company, and managing customer engagements.

GBG, now HighJump, is a leading North American manufacturer of logistics and warehouse management software for the beverage industry. I managed a team of 14 developers, responsible for core products and legacy systems related to order entry, pricing, inventory and distribution. My responsibilities included managing product scope and feature development, product releases and customer engagements, and initiatives to improve development process and product quality.

Senior developer and architect for a massive, online poker system, hosting up to 10k concurrent connections. During this time, I was responsible for architecture, design and implementation of back-end systems. Technical challenges included designing a scalable system that could distribute and handle a massive number of users, securely over the internet.

IMPAX is a Picture Archive and Communication System for the storage and archival of medical images, which includes both Unix server and Windows client products. I was the Product Architect for IMPAX Server, responsible for its design and technical direction.

I was the development team lead for the IMPAX client, a Windows application to view, manipulate and annotate medical images. My main responsibilities included managing a team of approximately 10 developers, delivering frequent product releases, and acting as the main point of contact for our development effort with product management and other stakeholders.

PixStream developed video streaming appliances, and was purchased by Cisco in 2000. I led a team of 11-14 developers in building the real-time UI framework used to manage the video compression hardware. We worked closely with the firmware development team to develop efficient transmission protocols and appropriate data visualization techniques.

Sir-tech was a game-developer, and producer for DOS and Windows games. I was a software developer, responsible for gameplay systems on Wizardry 8. I also worked closely with the artists and designers on gameplay elements and UI design.

Cognos was a leading Business Intelligence software vendor, and was acquired by IBM in 2007. I was a software developer for internal systems, and developed a call and bug-tracking system.
