As fully automated reporting can only occur in instances where this algorithm is successful, this led to a concomitant increase in productivity for all data feeds.• Designed, tested and piloted data feeds and user interface required to automatically report the interchange of railcars with other railroads through EDI with AEI data.• The above changes allowed additional benefits of $500,000 per year to be realized through AEI.

This system is used to help plan rail maintenance projects, and is an important tool for preventing derailments and eliminating associated costs.• Designed and programmed multi-functional, menu-driven PC tool that identifies the optimal ballast source for any given resurfacing project. The tool uses a financial model that takes the following into account: the physical properties of the ballast from each source, expected traffic at the resurfacing location, unit purchasing costs and transportation costs.
