Progress depends on informed decisions grounded in reliable data and rigorous, transparent analysis.As both an organizational leader and academic researcher, I have led the application of sophisticated models, tools, and datasets to deliver insights that inform critical discussions on energy and climate. My published work is inquiry-driven and highly interdisciplinary.I currently serve in a Senate confirmed role as Administrator of the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the statistical and analytic agency of the Department of Energy. At EIA, we are focused on making our information more transparent and accessible, expanding our long-term energy modeling capabilities, and providing insights into energy trends at the community level.Prior to joining EIA, I was a professor and University Faculty Scholar in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at NC State University, and prior to NC State, was an environmental scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. My degrees include a PhD from Carnegie Mellon in engineering and public policy and a BA in physics from Clark University.
