Nestled in the Anosy region of Madagascar, QMM mineral sands operation provides ilmenite ore to RTIT and other markets. Employing 450 Rio Tinto employees and 1700 contractors, this site provides an opportunity for growth and development in only 1 of 2 large mining operations on the red island. As an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team, I contribute to the strategic development of the QMM operations in a market growth phase. I support the development of local and expatriate human resources to ensure the long-term sustainability of the QMM operations. In my current role, I oversee the following departments: -Asset Management and Project Management Office (Sustaining Capital)-Business Improvement and Productivity Office-Metallurgy and Laboratory-Power Operations and distribution-Contractor Management Services-Employee Services-Planning, Scheduling and maintenance Work Management-Central Workshops-Control systems and automation

Overseeing major strategic projects with Rio Tinto's BC Operations

Overseeing the daily maintenance operations at the Rio Tinto Kitimat aluminum smelter, I led these large teams by providing direction and coaching for the maintenance engineering team, the operations supervisors and the planning/scheduling team. The maintenance group I oversaw was comprised of 110 union tradespeople who, reporting to the five maintenance supervisors, ensuring the continuous operation of the smelter. This is a highly skilled group of trade specialists which includes pipe fitters, electricians, instrument mechanics, millwrights, fabricators, welders, machinists, industrial and air conditioning mechanics, carpenters, painters, cladders, warehousing and building maintenance personnel. I oversaw the departmental budget, capital and operational expenditures, hired new employees, evaluated the work of the individuals on my team, developed talent within my group and worked with other sector managers to ensure our maintenance group practices were aligned with production demands.

My role with the business improvement group at the Rio Tinto Aluminum smelter in Kitimat BC as Lean Six Sigma Black Belt allows me to lead process driven projects which translate directly to reducing business cost and increasing productivity through continuous improvement (Kaizen) or problem solving activities.Some of the tasks of a Six Sigma Black belt which I developed in this role:-Work with area managers to identify production bottlenecks-Define sponsor needs and build project charter-Plan and lead DMAIC Kaizen activities-Work with project team (operators, maintainers, supervisors, trainers, coordinators, managers) to achieve goals identified in project charter-Provide coaching to area coordinators and supervisors-Act as advisor to area management team-Participate and lead cost saving initiative workshops-Provide support to areas for implementing and sustaining Lean tools and initiatives

As a project manager for Rio Tinto Alcan at the Kitimat aluminum smelter in Kitimat BC, I direct and lead to completion capital and operational (CAPEX/OPEX) projects in an industrial facility. With input and collaboration from consultants, contractors, specialists, support staff from the engineering group, the project owner or his representative, plant maintenance and Rio Tinto plant operators and maintainers; I ensure successful project completion. Some of the tasks I must undertake during project completion are as follows:• Develop project plans, manage individual deadlines and goals• Work with consultant Leads/PM's to coordinate external dependencies across projects• Financial management - accountable for the project budget and tracking of committed and forecasted spending• Resource planning and management• Work within the contractor management program to ensure the successful execution of the project with high HSE standards• Provide improvements and updates to the engineering team documents, processes, standards and procedures while maintaining a high focus on HSE commitment • Develop and maintain an effort driven, resource balanced project schedule• Tracking of status and completion of all deliverables, sign-offs, milestones and action items

As a civil engineer with a speciality in urban infrastructure, I've participated and acted as lead for the following tasks:-Water main designs and modeling of water systems-Storm water management designs-Designs for sanitary sewer systems-Site servicing designs-Road refurbishing and design projects-Prepare contract documents and construction drawings-Performed construction administration -Site engineering for projects under construction-Prepared written technical reports including but not limited to feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, and design criteria reports.-Project Management including managing schedules, budgets, and reporting requirements-Coordinate and supervise technicians and designers to ensure that contract drawings are accurately prepared and checked-Coordinate sub-consultants activity on projects-ISO 9001 quality coordinator
