Senior management role delivering the data and digitalisation plan for the company’s metering asset supply chain. As the proportion of energy customers accepting smart metering increased the traditional asset supply chain processes quickly became not fit for purpose. The increased volume, complexity and lead times for smart meters meant better data, forecasting, modelling, and associated processes were required to support this key business deliverable. I led a team of high-performing specialists who assessed npower’s asset requirements against the changing backdrop of technical, strategic, commercial, and operational objectives and constraints. This role demanded strong commercial awareness and an ability to lead the business through the relevant governance and assurance activities.Key achievements:Designed and developed asset forecasting matrix that improved visibility and forecasting accuracy of the thousands of possible device and firmware combinations being deployed on the network.Improvement in asset planning and forecasting confidence, leading to the mitigation of a £16m contract risk.Avoided all stock write-offs and had no ‘stock out’ incidents.Developed a suite of policy documents from scratch to formalise npower’s asset strategy.

My focus in this role was implementing business changes (primarily, but not limited to, IT changes) to remove barriers to npower customers becoming eligible for smart metering. This role was part of a high performing team with significant executive management exposure.Key achievements:3 smart metering deployment plans produced, justified, and accepted by Ofgem.Internal process and IT changes delivered to increase customer eligibility by 50%, allowing an additional 1 million homes and businesses to have smart meters installed.

Responsible for investment delivery assurance activities for the company’s asset investment plan. This included completing appraisals of business cases and providing project authorisation of capital investment projects up to £250k per project. I specialised in assuring delivery of highly technical areas of the distribution network relating to smart grid enablers and network security. This role was primarily programme management, with matrix accountability for a range of work programmes which included individual capital projects. Key achievements:Established as a subject matter expert in investment planning and assurance while securing £235m capital savings.Completed a PRINCE2 Foundation & Practitioner course.Selected to represent the company at the group level completing an internal audit on delivery assurance and sharing feedback on best practice.

Responsible for the maintenance and development of a business-critical IT system used to provide customer quotations for new connections to the distribution network. This system was heavily regulated by Ofgem, with quotation accuracy and timescales being subject to external audit, with the potential for enforcement action in the event of a breach of guaranteed standards. This role involved supervising daily operations, evaluating system risk and ensuring data confidentiality, integrity and availability. I worked closely with third party service providers to develop, test and troubleshoot system changes prior, during and post implementation.Key achievements:Successfully delivered a project to redesign the customer pricing processes used by electrical engineers, leading to improved quotation accuracy.Successfully delivered process improvements and system training to generate measurable improvement in quotation lead times.
