I served close to 600 students between two Title I elementary schools. I brought them a love of literature. I taught them the foundational research skills they need to become savvy consumers of information. Most importantly, I provided them with a place to belong, where the books represent all cultures and voices, and the atmosphere is one of welcome, joy, and learning without the consequence of grades.

I taught thousands of students, between the ages of 11 to 14, to think critically and evaluate information prior to accepting its truth. I forged connections between the school and the greater Jacksonville community through philanthropic ventures centered around literacy. I motivated students to read thousands of books through a thriving reading incentive program. I was a crucial information and collaborative teaching resource for subject area teachers on dozens of research endeavors.

Hired to be their technology teacher, I took the position with the stipulation that I would be permitted to build a library program. Through fundraising, relentless searching for free supplies, and an amazing community of invested parents, I built a thriving library program that included a self-designed Information Literacy curriculum, a collection of around 5000 titles, excellent circulation statistics, and a culture of excitement in the library. This library served a K-12 population of around 1600 students.

This position afforded me the opportunity to be so many things to so many children. I had the honor of serving the entire Jacksonville population of children between the ages of just a few months to twelve years of age. My programs ranged from parent/infant storytime, to a preschool class so popular that it had a waiting-list, to book clubs for school-aged children, to an Information Literacy blended learning course for homeschoolers. Coined the "Disney Princess Librarian," my singing, and performance skills brought children, parents, and school groups from around the city.

I began as a part-time Literacy Specialist teaching literacy skills to adults of all ages. Quickly, I promoted to serve as the Coordinator of the ESOL program. I designed curriculum, recruited and trained volunteers, taught classes, administered testing, tracked student progress, maintained student records, and grew the program significantly.
