Brought in by NAMA as part of an experienced, specialist team to manage Mount Carmel Private Hospital Group when it came under the control of NAMA during the Financial Crisis in Ireland. As Chief Financial Officer, I gained excellent experience at the sharp end of the healthcare sector. With turnover €37m, staff of 320, I was responsible for full realignment of financial processes, due diligence preparation, insurer contract negotiation, planning and development. Although, ultimately, NAMA asked the team to wind up the business, as it had no appetite for managing risk/complexity of the healthcare sector, we had, in fact, succeeded in stabilising the business through root and branch change management programme, creating a new organisational structure, bringing in new inventory management and other cost reduction practices in a unionised environment, while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
