Metabolic engineering of thermophilic Clostridia for the production of dicarboxylic acids. PhD position was part of the Marie Curie ITN called CLOSPORE. The work was carried out in the laboratory of Microbiology at Wageningen UR.

I conducted my project at the division of Systems and Synthetic Biology (Dept. Biology and Biological Engineering). The project involved the engineering of the central carbon metabolism of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to increase the production of 3-hydroxypropionic acid and other malonyl-CoA derived products.

Together with two PhD students I was responsible for a lab course in Environmental Biotechnology. My main task was to supervise six students that had to produce biogas from different sources of agricultural waste using a UASB reactor in a two-stage process on lab-scale.
